As one of Britain’s oldest stone circles, Castlerigg Stone Circle dates back to Neolithic times (around 3000BC). It stands near Keswick, and boasts a spectacular backdrop of some the Lake District’s finest mountains, including the mighty Helvellyn.

Taken as the sun was fading, this photo shows the stone circle and its backdrop in all its glory.
