About me
I'm Stu Lonsdale, the photographer behind North Photo.
The Photographer
I’ve been into photography since a young age, firstly using disposable film cameras, then digital cameras. I still remember my first digital camera – a Oregon Scientific 2MP beauty!
In my early twenties, I really started to appreciate Northumberland, so I bought my first DSLR, a Canon EOS 400D. After upgrading to a Canon EOS 5D MkII, then the MkIII, I now use a mirrorless system for a good balance between weight, size and quality.
My favourite things to photograph definitely include water (particularly waterfall), the night sky and landscapes, and I like to dabble with a bit of macro (extreme close-up) photography too.

The Wild Camper
I first went wild camping in my late teens, with a rudimentary tent and no idea of what I was doing. That theme continued for a while, then after a few years’ break, I started up again more seriously, and have never looked back. I love the peace and solitude of being in the middle of nowehere, focusing only on what’s happening now and in the next few moments. Sometimes I take my camera for the scenery, stars or even aurora.
A few years ago I bought a camping hammock, and since that day nearly every camp involves one of my hammocks! So much more comfortable than a tent – if you get it right. I camp frequently in Northumberland, and often head up to Scotland to sleep in the Highlands or Borders – always camping responsibly, discreetly and leaving no trace.
